The group was founded in the early 1980's by an amazing woman named Joyce Bahr, who has since led the fight to open adoption records in NYS
Through the years many women have joined the group, some come to one meeting, some come for a year, some come for a lifetime.  All find compassion and empathy they never knew was possible.  Adoption is complicated.  Most of the world only sees the happy side of the new adoptive family but what about the woman who carried her child for nine months, gave birth to her child and lost the most precious part of her.......people don't remember her, don't see her loss, don't look at her pain. This group is for that woman, the woman who lost so much, who gave up a piece of her heart when she placed her child.  It doesn't matter if the relinquishment was 6 months ago or 60 years ago........a mother remembers!  That mother, with empty arms is alone in her grief, she may have buried her grief so deep in her soul that the world does not know, but she loves her child and no matter what always will!

The group is currently co-facilitated by three women, Michelle, Pati and Janet, each lost their child to adoption. Their individual stories are different but their loss is the same. The group meets once a month but the members are always available to each other by phone or email.
